The Battle Creek Federal Center building; formerly the Battle Creek Sanitarium is located in downtown Battle Creek, Michigan.
The project consisted of rebuilding a portion of a concrete tunnel, concrete building wall and concrete beams; removed an existing concrete tunnel; repair and replaced existing tunnel decks and waterproofing. New asphalt paving, site concrete, steel pipe guardrail and steel rails for existing dumpsters. Lead paint removal at existing bathroom and installation of new acoustical ceiling and painting. Operations at the loading dock and waste removal services for the building continued throughout construction. Active utilities existed in the tunnels and were maintained during repairs with a majority of the work was performed above finished rooms. After structural concrete roof was removed and replaced new drains, waterproofing and a new concrete wearing surface was installed.
